What’s changed for 2027
Nové Město opens the season. In 2026 the XC season began in South Korea. In 2027 it starts at the Czech venue many fans call the home of XC.
The season is shorter. There are no rounds in Korea or at Lake Placid, so the 2027 XC season runs to eight rounds, from late May to late September.
Val di Sole returns. After hosting the 2026 World Championships, the Trentino venue is back as a World Cup round.
The World Championships fall between rounds 6 and 7. The 2027 Worlds take place in Les Gets from 30 August to 4 September, as part of the huge UCI Cycling World Championships in Haute-Savoie. That gives riders a hectic late summer: Lenzerheide, then the Worlds, then Val di Sole, all within about three weeks.
Round by round
Round 1: Nové Město na Moravě, Czechia (21–23 May)
There’s no better place to start. Nové Město has hosted the World Cup since 2011, and its Vysočina Arena course is famous for its huge crowds and loud atmosphere. It’s short, punchy and full of rock gardens and roots, which rewards riders who start the season sharp. It also hosts the 2029 World Championships.
Round 2: Saalfelden Leogang, Austria (11–13 June)
Leogang has hosted the World Championships twice, in 2012 and 2020. It’s also the 2028 Worlds host, so expect organisers to treat 2027 as part of the build-up. The course mixes steep climbs with fast, technical descents.
Round 3: Les Gets, France (18–20 June)
Les Gets hosts a World Cup in June, then returns ten weeks later for the World Championships. Riders and teams will be watching this round closely as a preview of the rainbow-jersey course.
Round 4: La Thuile, Italy (2–4 July)
La Thuile delivered one of the best weekends of 2026. Martina Berta took her first elite XCO win at home, and Luca Martin won the men’s race on his way to the overall title. It’s a high, demanding Alpine course with long climbs.
Round 5: Pal Arinsal, Andorra (9–11 July)
The second of two back-to-back weekends. Pal Arinsal hosted the 2024 World Championships, and its high altitude makes it a tough test of fitness. It’s also the last race before the summer break.
Round 6: Lenzerheide, Switzerland (20–22 August)
After a six-week break, the season restarts in Lenzerheide’s Bike Kingdom. Luca Martin won here in 2026, and the venue hosted the 2018 World Championships. With the Worlds a week later, form here will matter.
Round 7: Val di Sole, Italy (10–12 September)
Val di Sole is one of the most technical venues on the circuit, known for steep, rooty terrain. It comes straight after the World Championships, so expect some tired legs and some new world champions racing in rainbow stripes for the first time.
Round 8: Soldier Hollow, Utah, USA (25–26 September)
The season finale is at the 2002 Winter Olympics venue in the Wasatch Mountains. In 2026 Cole Punchard was second in the XCO here and Martina Berta won the short track. With the overall titles likely to be decided here, expect a tense end to the season.
Storylines to watch in 2027
Can Luca Martin defend his titles? The 2026 XCO and XCC World Cup champion has moved to Decathlon Ford after Cannondale Factory Racing closed. He’ll race Van Rysel’s new 32-inch RCR-XC, a brand-new bike in its first season.
The rise of 32-inch wheels. Several teams raced 32-inch prototypes in 2026. In 2027 we’ll find out whether the bigger wheel becomes the standard at the front of the race.
Where will Charlie Aldridge race? The European champion, who won the 2026 finale at Lake Placid, was still without a confirmed 2027 team at the time of writing.
A changed team line-up. Cannondale Factory Racing and Lapierre PXR Racing are gone, and Origine Racing Division is looking for a new title sponsor. Several top riders are on new teams. [Read our 2027 transfer tracker] for every confirmed move.
